Senior pharmaceutical executive to lead advanced on-dose drug authentication platform
EMERYVILLE, CALIFORNIA ─ August 18, 2015 ─ TruTag Technologies, Inc., developer of an innovative, edible security platform for pharmaceuticals, today announced that Steven Yoder has joined the company to lead its business development efforts for the pharmaceutical market.
TruTag® microtags or “TruTags®” offer a unique solution for drug manufacturers, allowing a digital scan of a drug to confirm its authenticity and reveal provenance information such as manufacturing location, dosage, images of packaging, expiration date, supply chain data, and lot or batch number. TruTags are made of high-purity silicon dioxide (SiO2), or silica, which is a well-studied material that has been used in food and medicine for decades.
Yoder joins TruTag after a nearly 30-year career with film coating market leader Colorcon, Inc., a world leader in the development, supply and technical support of formulated film coating systems, modified release technologies, and functional excipients for the pharmaceutical industry. A seasoned veteran who most recently served as Colorcon’s Manager of Global Brand Enhancement, Yoder began his career at Colorcon in the lab formulating film coating systems, then headed the technical quality group for specification of new formulations and new product development.
Since 2001, Yoder focused on brand enhancement services, working with major pharmaceutical customers on new tablet design and trialing. As a leader of the brand enhancement group at Colorcon, he worked with pharmaceutical manufacturers on patient and consumer preference studies related to tablet formulations and designs, and was an evangelist for brand enhancement strategies in the industry. He is the author of several patents related to pharmaceutical coatings and security, and has been published in the industry on anti-counterfeiting and authentication technologies, and patient compliance.
Steve Yoder commented, “I am very pleased to be joining TruTag. I’m excited to have this opportunity and believe that this technology will fundamentally change the way pharmaceutical companies secure their drugs and enhance their brands in the future.” Kent Mansfield, President of TruTag Technologies, added, “We are extremely pleased to have Steve as part of our team. Steve will be leading the effort to continue commercializing TruTag’s on-dose authentication solution to the worldwide pharmaceutical industry, where he has extensive relationships and experience selling multiple brand enhancement products and services.”
About TruTag Technologies
TruTag Technologies is the developer of a leading edible, covert security platform to address the trillion-dollar global illicit product challenge and the $200 billion market for counterfeit drugs. TruTags® are edible, dust-sized particles embedded with spectral data into the very fabric of a product, much like fingerprints on a person, without the need for labels or packaging. TruTag’s covert, low–cost, heat–resistant, and edible silica microtags serve as bar codes and can be incorporated into solid, oral-dose medications as well as other materials and products. The unique physical properties of TruTags® provide a vast library of available unique codes, which allow for tracking of high-volume, high-value items at product or even batch levels. This business information tool can be used in a variety of products, such as pharmaceuticals, nutritional supplements, food, electronics, industrial components, consumer goods, and medical devices.
The TruTag® security platform provides superior brand protection, enhances the safety and traceability of food and medicine, improves tracking and logistics, assures product quality, optimizes efficiency in clinical trial administration, provides informatics for product and component tracking through the supply chain, and enables the Internet of Things. TruTag Technologies, Inc., is a 2014 Technology Pioneer as selected by the World Economic Forum, an honor awarded to the world’s most innovative and influential companies whose technology can significantly impact the way business and society operates.
