EMERYVILLE, CA AND SOLANA BEACH, CA, December 20, 2023 — TruTag Technologies, Inc. and Spinnaker Biosciences, Inc. today announced that they have entered into a strategic supply partnership for TruTag’s advanced nano-porous silica (pSi) particles to support the commercialization of Spinnaker’s new therapy for the treatment of age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

The Spinnaker therapy is a combination product that involves the loading of the biosimilar Ranibizumab into pSi particles. The pSi particles are injected into the eye, where they act as a controlled-release drug delivery vehicle that delivers its payload over several months. TruTag’s pSi is an effective vehicle for in-vivo drug delivery due to its inherent biocompatibility, particle porosity and pore size. This allows for a sustained delivery of a therapeutic payload without the inherent dissolution challenges of other drug-delivery polymers.

The pSi utilized in the Spinnaker solution is highly-customized and has to meet precise porosity, pore size and elution specifications. TruTag Technologies is unrivalled in its ability to manufacture pSi to highly-precise specifications and under cGMP manufacturing conditions at a cost and quantity that makes the overall solution viable. Under the agreement, TruTag will supply Spinnaker with precision-crafted porous silicon-based particles.

Technology Coalition Prove Out the Mass Digitalization of Pharma Pills

HARLEYSVILLE, PA and EMERYVILLE, CA ─ 10 December, 2019 — A coalition of technology partners announced today that they have demonstrated the mass digitalization of pharmaceutical tablets and their linkage to a Trillian-based trust ledger. They believe this will provide a major step forward in ensuring supply chain integrity and addressing the growing problem of patient non-adherence.

The supply chain simulation run by PwC Australia, Colorcon and TruTag Technologies created a secure, direct link between a physical tablet (placebo) and a digital backend, without having to rely on the traditional approach of authenticating traditional packaging barcodes.

The solution demonstrated has three components. The first is an intelligent coating system from Colorcon that is infused with spectrally-encoded particles, or TruTags®, which act as edible barcodes. The second is an authentication application that can be used on commonly available cell phones that decodes and verifies the embedded TruTags. This application provides a link between the physical tablet and the third component of the solution, a Trillian-based distributed ledger operated by PwC Australia.

To date, the digitalization of medicines has been inhibited by the economic, regulatory and technical limitations. The collaboration will see TruTag’s edible “optical barcodes” incorporated into existing Colorcon coatings, with the microtags verified by either a smart phone application or a proprietary reader. Each SiO₂ particle is encoded with an optical signature that is manufactured into the microtags without the use of additional additives or markers.

EMERYVILLE, CALIFORNIA ─ September 5, 2018 — TruTag Technologies, a provider of product identity solutions, today announced the extension of its Product Identity platform to include mobile phone authentication of solid oral dosage form tablets.

TruTag Technologies manufactures microscopic, edible optical barcodes or “TruTags®” that can be applied directly on a product in ink or as part of the film coating process. TruTags allow for instant and unequivocal product authentication for use in identifying supply-chain anomalies such as counterfeits, quality control incidents, and unauthorized product diversion.

TruTags are currently authenticated via a proprietary device that forms part of a secure, closed-loop Product Identity platform. TruTag Technologies has now extended its platform to allow for mobile phone authentication. The solution is currently focused on tablet-form drug product but is planned to be extended to other solid oral dosage form products such as capsules.

SecuriLam™ laminate comes with microscopic encoded silica particles, or “TruTags^®” pre-embedded into standard adhesive laminate film stock for easy adoption in label, document, and packaging applications.  These TruTags are covert to the naked eye and do not affect the elegance or finish of the adhesive laminate or final product. TruTag’s precision nano-porous silica to facilitate Spinnaker’s drug delivery solution

EMERYVILLE, CALIFORNIA ─ February 21, 2017 — TruTag Technologies, a leader in fabrication of nano-porous silica, product authentication, brand security, and data intelligence solutions, today announced that it has entered into a strategic partnership with Spinnaker Biosciences, a biotechnology company focused on the development of proprietary technology for controlled/sustained release drug delivery.  Under the agreement, TruTag will supply Spinnaker with precision-fabricated nano porous silica particles (pSi).

Founded in 2009, Spinnaker Biosciences is utilizing pSi as a controlled-release drug delivery vehicle.  In the Spinnaker solution, active pharmaceutical ingredients are loaded into the nanopores of the silica particles.  pSi is an ideal candidate for in-vivo drug delivery due to its inherent biocompatibility, biodegradable nature and precision-fabricated particle porosity, which allows for protected storage and sustained delivery of a therapeutic payload.

The pSi utilized in the Spinnaker solution is highly-customized and has to meet precise porosity and elution specifications. TruTag Technologies has designed and built the world’s most advanced cGMP nano-porous silica manufacturing facility and is unrivalled in its ability to manufacture pSi to precise specifications at a cost and quantity that makes the overall solution viable.

New robust, low-cost camera technology expands potential applications for high-resolution hyperspectral imaging

Special Purpose Revenue Bonds may be used for planning, construction and equipping of TruTag’s manufacturing operations

KAPOLEI, HAWAII ─ August 16, 2016 — TruTag Technologies, Inc., a leader in product authentication, brand security, and data intelligence solutions today announced that the Honorable David Y. Ige, Governor of the State of Hawaii, signed into law Act 118, “Relating to the Issuance of Special Purpose Revenue Bonds to Assist TruTag Technologies, Inc.”  Under this new law, the State of Hawaii will issue the Revenue Bonds so TruTag will have access to a credit facility, provided by independent funding entities, with up to $15 million to use toward the financing or refinancing of the planning, construction, improvement, and equipping of its manufacturing facilities in Hawaii.

TruTag has constructed the world’s largest cGMP nano-porous silica production plant in Kapolei on the island of Oahu. This facility also houses the company’s application engineering and advanced materials research center. A seasoned veteran who most recently served as Colorcon’s Manager of Global Brand Enhancement, Yoder began his career at Colorcon in the lab formulating film coating systems, then headed the technical quality group for specification of new formulations and new product development.

TruTags offer a unique solution for drug manufacturers, allowing a digital scan of a drug to confirm its authenticity and reveal provenance information such as manufacturing location, dosage, images of packaging, expiration date, supply chain data, and lot or batch number. WuXi and TruTag Technologies announced their alliance in 2014, including an investment by the WuXi Venture Fund in TruTag.

TruTags have a number of benefits for pharmaceutical manufacturers that were confirmed in this joint testing:

• TruTags can be applied to qualifying solid oral dosage form (SODF) products using a consistent, repeatable process.
• No new manufacturing equipment and changes in manufacturing processes are needed.
• After application on manufactured tablets, TruTags are successfully detected using TruTag’s proprietary optical detection device.
• Apart from this detection process, TruTags are covert and not visually identifiable and remain with the tablet for its entire life.
• Once applied, the TruTag solution did not affect the stability or dissolution properties of API drugs in completed accelerated open and closed bottle testing.
• Implementing the TruTag solution on existing drugs requires minimal regulatory reporting changes for drug manufacturers and complies with the physical-chemical identifier (PCID) guidance issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2011.

WuXi and TruTag will now begin further testing of TruTags on additional API products. They will also produce a technical white paper for the industry detailing the results of the application method and practice, the detection process and data collection, and outcomes of dissolution and stability testing. TruTag is already working with several multinational pharmaceutical companies in pilot testing for broad deployment of this technology in marketed SODF drugs and product candidates.

Mr. Melohn spent the last 25 years immersed in the Internet and the world of distributed systems. He most recently served as Vice President, Chief Technology Officer of Network Systems at Cisco Systems where his team produced over 200 patents, including work in applied cryptography, network address translation, quality of service, keying infrastructure, secure tunneling and configuration and many other areas. Melohn and his team were two time winners of Cisco’s Pioneer Technology Award and are one of the top engineering teams to bring innovation to Cisco’s product line.

Veteran Security Industry Executive and Technology Innovator to Head Company

As an early innovator in the industry, Mr. Mansfield served as Chief Operating Officer of Authentix, Inc., a brand protection and product authentication company, helping build this nanotechnology company into one of the early success stories in the brand protection market. Authentix was later acquired by the Carlyle Group and JH Whitney.
